Data sheets are an exciting thing. For many people, they are the be-all and end-all when buying a car. With just a few glances, you can see how powerful the engine is, how much displacement is available … And of course you also want to know what the respective car has to offer in terms of space, because the eye needs some joy too. Do you like the look? There is no substitute for a personal impression. But what about the area in between? Do you want to know more than a few columns and tables which can be provided? This article is intended to “close the gap”. And it does so with one of our most popular models, the Volvo XC60!
The Volvo XC60
Anyone who says Volvo must also say XC60. This reference to a famous saying is not exaggerated in this case. After all, the XC60 is one of the best-selling Volvos in the world. According to the Swedish manufacturer, every third Volvo on the road is an XC60. That’s something to be proud of! In the meantime, one million copies of the popular SUV have been sold.
The first generation saw the light of day in 2008 and was an instant hit with the public. At that time, Volvo had already celebrated great success with the XC90, but was also faced with a challenge: many interested parties were enthusiastic about the XC90, but wanted a slightly smaller alternative. However, they didn’t want to compromise on comfort, driving experience and quality. To describe the XC60 with its length of around 4.60 meters as a little brother is still an exaggeration. It’s smaller, but definitely not a small car. In fact, for many it represents the often cited “golden mean” in premium SUVs. More than enough space for the family, but not too big.
Who was thinking?
Let’s be honest: Nothing is so perfect that it couldn’t be made even better. This also applies to navigation systems. The first models were a sensation. Today nobody would use them voluntarily. Why? Because we now know that things can be done much better. So why stop now?
After the start, many navigation systems first point out that they “can’t help it” if the driver causes an accident because of them. Sure, typing while driving distracts you from traffic. Unfortunately, you can’t always do without it. You may have to leave the planned route briefly to find a gas station. Or you will be informed of a traffic jam and have to decide whether and which alternative route you want to use. All of this means typing and… taking your eyes off the road.
With the Volvo XC60 , that’s a thing of the past. It is equipped with the most modern assistance systems, which are not only technically impressive but also very useful. If you wish, you can control the navigation system in the XC60 completely via voice control. The annoying typing while driving is gone and your eyes stay where they belong: on the road.
The same goes for music selection: just tell your Volvo XC60 what you want to hear and it takes care of it. Do you need the current weather report or would you like to know how your favorite club played? All of this can be implemented at any time using voice commands. If you wish, the Volvo XC60 will even find cooking recipes for you (we tried it!). While this doesn’t really help with driving, it does show that the proverbial sky is the limit here! The fact that the XC60 has a hands-free system seems almost boring. Let’s stick to the recipes…
The technology behind all of this comes from the US company Google. A company that most people associate with “searching the internet”. In fact, the US company has developed a variety of great technologies, many of which also significantly improve driving. At Volvo, a lot of thought has gone into how to integrate these inventions into a car. They should not only be useful, but also easy to use and … fun!
Safety first!
It’s very easy to lose sight of the essentials when you’re so excited about new technologies. In the case of cars, these are things like safety , reliability and comfort. It’s a challenge that Volvo’s engineers are also facing. So many bright minds and so many ideas. In the end, however, everyone has to be clear that none of this is of any use if you overlook what customers want first: a car with which you can get from A to B safely. If it’s also fun to drive, all the better! And of course you don’t want to have to part with a great car right away. So the car should last as long as possible. We are very happy that our Swedish partner never loses sight of all these points!

When you’re on the road with your XC60, a whole battalion of little helpers is working for you. Sensors constantly scan the environment to identify potential threats, alert you and intervene if necessary. Some examples:
Park backwards
Life would be easier if you always had a perfect view of your surroundings. Unfortunately, the car next to you is so awkward that you cannot tell if “something is coming”. In the case of the XC60, you don’t have to either: it recognizes cars coming from the left or right before you see them. And of course he points it out to you. If necessary, he refuses to drive out. Of course, only if an accident would otherwise happen. We don’t want to take away control of the car from you!
Heavy traffic / deer crossing
When changing lanes, the problem with the blind spot often arises. A vehicle is approaching and is not visible in the mirror exactly when you need to see it before you change lanes. Again, you can rely on your Volvo. He’ll take you home safely! If you’re tired or distracted and don’t notice you’re off track, he’ll intervene as well. And of course it warns you if deer or other “moving obstacles” enter the danger radius. If you don’t get the warning of a herd of deer, it intervenes and prevents a collision.
Comfort is a must
Driving a Volvo is an experience. We sometimes hear from our customers that after returning home, they often sit in the garage for a few minutes before going into the house. We could now sing many lines in praise of the perfect suspension, the elegant interior design and many other beautiful things. But none of that replaces personal experience. A Volvo is anything but a “car with an integrated sell-by date”. Swedish cars are known for their extreme durability. It is not uncommon to see 800,000 kilometers on the clock on these cars. And you drive and drive and drive. Many of our customers choose a Volvo because it is cheaper than buying four other cars in the same period. A point on which we do not disagree.

Our experience has shown that the advanced navigation system is just as popular as the fine dust filter. This filter removes up to 95 percent of all harmful substances from the air before it enters the vehicle. On other things, opinions are divided. Some customers react enthusiastically to the ambient interior lighting, while others think it’s great but don’t necessarily need it. The fantastic sound system from Harman Kardon also met with different reactions: those who like listening to music in the car are completely enthusiastic. But there are also people who don’t listen to any music in the car. So why the expensive sound system? The old adage applies here that there is no one true way.

Who is the XC60 for?
