The Volvo XC60 is Volvo’s best-selling SUV and is available in Switzerland from CHF 66,700. You can choose between the Mild Hybrid B5 and the two plug-in hybrids, the T6 and T8. Behind the second row of seats, the boot has a capacity of 483 litres; with the seatbacks folded down, this increases to 965 litres. Under the centre console cover, there is space for a wallet, sunglasses and keys. There are two cup holders as standard, with a third suitable for slim cans. Nothing is left lying around in the rear either: door pockets hold small items, and there are two further holders in the folding armrest.
The panoramic roof floods the entire interior with natural light. Tinted glass reduces glare and noise. The front section can be opened or tilted. On hot days, the electric sunblind extends automatically when the temperature reaches 25 degrees. Its perforated fabric lets light through whilst keeping the heat out.
When you unlock the car, the exterior and interior lights come on to guide you to the vehicle. Inside, indirect lighting creates a calm atmosphere. The boot is also illuminated, as are the door pockets and cup holders. Passengers in the rear seats can read by dimmed lighting without dazzling the driver.

The Volvo XC60 is equipped with Google Assistant. Simply say ‘Hey Google’ and keep your hands on the steering wheel. This allows you to call someone, dictate a message or get directions.
You can download your apps straight into the car via Google Play. Music, podcasts and audiobooks play directly in the car, without having to go via your mobile phone. You can install new apps in the car just as you would on your phone.
Google Maps is built in and shows traffic in real time. If there’s a traffic jam, the sat-nav suggests a detour. Charging points and petrol stations appear on the map whilst you’re on the move.
The plug-in hybrid can travel up to 79 kilometres on electric power alone, and up to 96 kilometres in urban areas. This means you can cover most commutes in the canton of Zug without using any petrol. With a full tank and a fully charged battery, a range of up to 1,197 kilometres is possible.
The battery takes around three hours to fully charge using a 16-amp wallbox. It takes longer from a standard socket, but you’ll still have plenty of time to charge it overnight. When out and about, you can charge the car at public charging points. If you want to drive in electric mode every day, set up your own charging station at home.
When deciding between the plug-in hybrid and the mild hybrid, the key factor is whether you can charge regularly. The mild hybrid recharges every time you brake. The plug-in hybrid must be charged from a mains socket. If you have access to electricity at home or at work, you can drive the plug-in hybrid in electric mode for everyday use. Without a charging facility, the mild hybrid remains the better choice.

The driver and front passenger can adjust the temperature separately, whilst there are adjustable air vents at the rear. You can pre-set the cabin temperature via the Volvo Cars app. Heated seats, a heated steering wheel and windscreen defrosting can also be activated via the app. In winter, you’ll step into a warm, de-iced car.
The air quality system detects harmful substances and automatically closes the air intakes. According to Volvo, the optional air purifier removes up to 95 per cent of fine dust particles and 99.9 per cent of pollen. For those sensitive to pollen, this makes a noticeable difference in spring. You can start the purification process via the display or the app.
ISOFIX anchor points on the rear seats keep the child seat securely in place. Integrated booster seats are height-adjustable and ensure the seatbelt is positioned correctly for taller children. The child safety lock is fitted as standard; a version controllable electrically from the driver’s seat is available at extra cost.
The safety assistance system detects vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and large animals, both day and night. If a collision is imminent, the system issues a warning first. If you do not react, the Volvo XC60 brakes automatically.
When reversing out of a parking space, visibility is often poor. The cross-traffic alert detects vehicles approaching from the side. If necessary, the system applies the brakes.
Four cameras combine to create a bird’s-eye view. You can see the vehicle from above and everything around it. This is a real help in tight garages in the city of Zug.
The BLIS blind-spot system monitors the area next to and behind you. If you try to change lanes whilst someone is driving there, it warns you. If there is a risk of collision, it gently intervenes in the steering.
If you cross the centre line without indicating, the Volvo XC60 detects the danger. The steering is gently corrected until the vehicle is back on course. On long motorway journeys, this is a real relief.
Many serious accidents occur when turning left across the oncoming carriageway. If the system detects an oncoming vehicle, the SUV brakes automatically. You remain in control and gain valuable time.
