The XC40 is the smallest SUV in the Swedish manufacturer’s catalogue. Which in no way means that you should underestimate it. The XC40 is anything but a compromise. Rather, it is an “SUV for every situation” that is even ahead of its big brothers in some cases. Let’s take a closer look at Volvo’s “little one”:

Hand on heart: not everyone has a large garage. Or rather, a garage long enough to accommodate a “really big SUV”. Here the Volvo XC40 has a real plus point: With a length of 4.44 metres, it is no dwarf, but it is still shorter than some “ships on four wheels”. Admittedly: In terms of storage space, it can’t hold a candle to an XC90, for example. But if you can cope with less space (and there really isn’t much in the XC40 either), you’re not at a disadvantage here. Let’s put it this way: if you want to travel with children and a dog, the Volvo XC40 is absolutely sufficient. If you want to pack the dog house in addition, we recommend the XC40.

In addition, the (comparatively) compact dimensions are of course an advantage when it comes to parking. Here, the XC40 elegantly scurries into parking spaces that remain closed to an XC60 or XC90. Please don’t get us wrong: we are not saying that the XC40 is the better car. Rather, it is the “David” among the Volvo SUVs, which in many respects can hold its own alongside its “Goliath brothers”.

Even a smaller SUV should offer what you associate with the term: Comfort and luxury! As is well known, Volvo stands for the so-called “Swedish luxury”. Accordingly, the Swedish brand has not allowed itself any niggles with the XC40. In fact, the quality of the materials used goes far beyond what is now expected from “small SUVs”. Everything here feels really good and noble. In this context, Volvo speaks of a “second home”. We at Hüsser & Palkoska AG, on the other hand, love the term “living room on wheels”. How apt the term is is not only shown by the materials in the interior: a nice living room also has cupboards and shelves where you can store things. As for the Volvo XC40, it may not come with a built-in living room cabinet, but it still has an impressive selection of storage options. Not sure where to put your shopping bag? The XC40 has special hooks for that. Want your laptop to be well protected during transport? In the XC40 you will find a suitable device. But sports bags, phones and even water bottles also find a place specially designed for them. Sliding around on the seat was yesterday!

When we talk about inner values in cars, we are usually talking about the drive. However, the most important intrinsic value is the people sitting in the car – and their health. Unfortunately, we live in a world where healthy air is no longer a given. This is where the Volvo XC40 provides valuable help: it is equipped with an advanced air purification system. This captures up to 80 percent of the so-called PM-2.5 particles before they get into the interior of the car. It sounds paradoxical, but inside the Volvo SUV it is in principle somewhat healthier than outside. At least as far as the air we breathe is concerned.

Also beneficial to health, albeit in a different way, are Volvo’s built-in assistance systems. These monitor the surroundings and help to prevent accidents. For example, the XC40 adapts its speed to vehicles in front. Should you leave your lane (e.g. if you are tired), it will intervene to help if necessary. The assistance systems can do even more: they detect vehicles driving in the “blind spot” and intervene if a collision is imminent.

Indirectly involved in safety is the voice control that is part of every Volvo SUV. The Google Assistant can also be operated via voice commands. This eliminates the need for tedious (and risky!) typing and keeps your eyes where they belong: on the road!

What’s the point of all the high-tech solutions if driving is no fun? This is where the XC40 scores in every respect! Not only is it very pleasant to operate and drive: It also looks really good! Of course, it glides over the ground as elegantly as you would expect from a Volvo. But that’s not all: it comes with a luxurious premium sound system equipped with 13 speakers. Combined with the 600-watt digital amplifier, the music here sounds the way we want to hear it: Simply heavenly! A high-quality subwoofer provides the necessary “fullness from below”, while a digital system optimises the response of the individual speakers. The result is a sound experience that is second to none, no matter where you sit in the car.

All these are just a few of the great features that Volvo’s “little one” brings with it. We would be happy to show you the rest in person at a meeting with a test drive. Because in the end, it’s always true: Talking about a Volvo is great, driving it is even better!

Your Hüsser & Palkoska AG

The XC40 is the smallest SUV in the Swedish manufacturer’s catalogue.
