The new year has begun and it will certainly be anything but boring. For example, there is the announcement of the Volvo EX90. A brand new model that marks the next step in a long success story. We would like to take this opportunity to tell you a few things about the upcoming newcomer.

A new all-electric SUV from Volvo!

The all-new EX90 is powered entirely by electricity. This is a clear departure from the previous practice of offering combustion or hybrid powertrains as an alternative. We’ll go more into detail on how the EX90 meets common criticisms of electric cars or rather how it elegantly does push them beside. Let’s address a few other things first:

Comfort for the whole family

The EX90 is an SUV. This not only puts it in the top class of luxury cars (Volvo did not coin the term “Swedish luxury” in car construction for nothing). It is also a space wonder. This does not only refer to the question of how much space there is for luggage: the Volvo EX90 is a true seven-seater. Yet none of the seven passengers have to sacrifice comfort or a great driving experience. The EX90 has been deliberately designed so that each occupant really does have enough space and can enjoy the journey in comfort. The maximum boot capacity of 1,915 litres also speaks a clear language here: a seven-seater without compromise!

High-tech of tomorrow in a car of today

As drivers, we have become accustomed to our car beeping excitedly when we are about to hit an obstacle while reversing. Reversing cameras have also long since lost the veneer of a technical revolution. In all these (and other) aspects, the Volvo EX90 heralds a new chapter: it comes standard with 8 cameras, 5 radars as well as 16 ultrasonic sensors that permanently keep an eye on the surroundings. In addition, a so-called Lidar sensor is on board, which is a small technological miracle: The sensor scans the surroundings in front of the car in continuous operation. Everything that appears in front of you in terms of objects is detected and estimated on the basis of shape and size. You could say that the new Volvo has a whole collection of eyes and ears with which it captures everything that happens around the car. The data collected is analysed in real time and tells the car if and when you need assistance. In an emergency, the system recognises possible dangers ahead of you and prepares to assist you. The magic word here is Safe Space Technology and it represents a completely new chapter in road safety.

A new generation of driving aids

Likewise, the Volvo EX90 expands the previous possibilities of driving aids. If you already have a Volvo, you will be used to your car adjusting speed and distance to other vehicles. In the new generation, you also get steering assistance when changing lanes. A real highlight, however, is the assistance on bends: these are recognised and assessed by the EX90 in advance. If you run the risk of driving too fast into a bend, the EX90 adjusts the speed even before the bend. Excessive speed before bends is a frequent cause of accidents. Volvo‘s new technology significantly reduces this danger!

Outdated was yesterday

Many things that were once considered revolutionary eventually became commonplace before finally becoming obsolete. This also applies to electronic systems in cars. We have already mentioned the example of the “reversing beeper”. As for Volvo’s Safe Space Technology, it is more than impressive by today’s standards. Nevertheless, further improvements will also be made here in the future. To prevent your Volvo from becoming “obsolete” at some point, the Swedish manufacturer’s developers have come up with something great: Over-the-air updates. In short, this means that any enhancements to the existing capabilities will be wirelessly fed into your EX90 via the internet. If you hear of any groundbreaking enhancements to the Safe Space system, chances are your Volvo has already downloaded them during the night! Congratulations on your new car!

No more complaining!

When the first electric cars were built, there was still criticism in many places about their suitability for everyday use. Many felt that the range was far too short. Charging also took far too long. In addition, the power was too low. And when there was more power, it was at the expense of range. It was a balancing act that usually turned out unsatisfactory. All these criticisms were justified. And the Volvo EX90 clears up all of them.

Volvo‘s new SUV, for example, offers a range of 600 kilometres with an output of 517 hp. The question of whether to buy an electric car with a powerful engine or a long range is thus settled. The problem with charging times has also been abolished: 30 minutes are enough for the EX90 to charge the battery up to 80 percent.

What does good looks sound like?

We will refrain from praising the attractive exterior of the Volvo EX90 at this point. The first photos already show that we can look forward to a beautiful car. However, we do not want to conceal the fact that Volvo’s new SUV can be ordered with a 3D sound system from Bowers and Wilkins. We are already looking forward to listening to our favourite music in the car!

What else is there to report?

The EX90 can do much more than we can list here in advance. We are therefore already looking forward to receiving the first copies, but this will take some time. Of course, we are already at your disposal to answer all open questions about the EX90.
